The OCC colts section aims to provide quality coaching for boys and girls aged between 8 and 18 years old (school years 4 to 13). Throughout the season there are weekly club training nights for all age groups supervised by qualified coaches. Our colts are given the opportunity to put into place the skills that they have been taught through playing in a number of matches against colts from other clubs, including playing in age group leagues.
The colts section was re-introduced to the club as far back as 1993, run initially by a number of volunteers involved with several age groups. As the years have elapsed, this section has grown from strength to strength, such that we are run a section that contains in the region of 100 colts covering the whole range of age groups. Our coaches are volunteers who give their time willingly, and hopefully provide a fun and enjoyable atmosphere, so if you can offer any help no matter how small please speak up.
Although the emphasis placed on the colts section is to have fun around playing the game of cricket, we are also keen to instil a competitive edge as this is important to us as a club. We of course hope that our colts of today will enjoy the game of cricket and the friendships formed in playing for the OCC, but we also hope that they will progress to become the adult playing future of our club in the years to come. The success of this philosophy can already be seen in two main ways. Firstly, a number of our colts having been picked to play in representative sides and finally, we also have a number of the older colts and former colts who have progressed into representing our senior cricket teams.
We believe we have a colts section to be proud of and we hope that you choose to entrust us, the OCC, in developing their enthusiasm and abilities in the great game that is cricket.
