Selection Policy - 2015
2015 Selection Policy
The club is committed to providing each playing member with the opportunity to play cricket. On this basis, all playing members have a responsibility to conform to the selection policy.
Playing Expectations for 2015
These are set out to allow the membership to understand the rationale for selection and allow the club to achieve its ambitions.
Saturday 1st XI - Achieve promotion to KCL 1st XI Div 1
Saturday 2ndXI – Securing a top half finish/pushing for promotion in KCL 2nd XI Div 1 (following last season’s promotion)
Saturday 3rd XI - Achieve promotion from KRCL Div 1B
Saturday 4th XI – Achieve promotion from KRCL Div 2B West
Saturday 5th XI and Sunday XI to play the game competitively, but in a spirit of enjoyment
Subscriptions for playing membership must be paid in full by the 31st May. Failure to comply will result in non-selection unless written evidence of an agreement with the Club Treasurer is offered to the Chairman of Playing in person.
Each week the Chairman of Playing will update team selection of those yet to pay.
Role of the Captain
Remain committed to their elected positions unless exceptional circumstances demand a change.
Support the selection policy by demonstrating transparency, logic and impartiality.
Nominate a vice-captain before the printing of the fixture cards.
Canvass availability from all their participating players following Saturday, Sunday and midweek fixtures and advise the Chairman of Playing by Sunday evening.
Facilitate the transition of young cricketers into adult cricket.
All playing members assume personal responsibility for making their availability known to a member of the selection committee no later than 6pm on a Monday. Failure to notify will exclude those playing members from selection for that week and perhaps occasion them being selected in a lower side if an opportunity arises later in the week.
It is assumed playing members available for selection will play for any side unless advised to the contrary at the time of canvassing availability.
If a player becomes unavailable following selection they must immediately notify the designated assigned captain and explain the reason for the change. The captain will contact his equivalent in a lower side to discuss selection of a replacement. If this change is later than Thursday consideration must be given to any selection not unduly disrupting the lower side.
Playing members contacted following a drop-out will be expected to be available for the side selected again unless advised to the contrary again at the time of canvassing availability.
Playing members dropping out on a regular basis or any refusal to play where selected will become a major focus of discussion at team selection.
Younger cricketers providing a mid to long-term commitment in terms of their availability will be assured of sufficient opportunity to demonstrate their playing skills.
Team selection will take place on Monday evenings at 8pm unless advised by the Chairman of Playing. All captains, or their nominated deputy, must attend and offer a match summary before the onset of selection.
Captains can only select players registered with the relevant leagues.
Captains will select a team to gain maximum advantage from their scheduled fixture whilst ensuring compliance with selection policy and recognizing the opportunity to develop our younger players. Where the situation allows, it will be current form not that from past seasons, that will be considered. Where discussion is required, the consensus view will be taken.
No playing member can be promoted more than one side but it is recognised availability might on occasions require a compromise.
No playing member can drop more than one side unless there is a breach of club discipline or exceptional circumstances enforce a contravention.
Playing members must accept the decision of the selection committee. However in circumstances where a playing member is dissatisfied it is anticipated that there will be a need to approach the relevant captain who will explain the reasoning underpinning the decision causing unrest.
If a captain selects a Colt into an adult fixture they must summarize their expected contribution at team selection.
Senior paid-up playing members who are not selected for a Saturday fixture will be given priority for Sunday selection, if available. If senior paid-up playing members are available on one day only and are not selected, consideration for a rebate for part of their subscription will be considered only at the end of the season.
Captains must communicate any changes to their original team selection to the Chairman of Playing. This should be communicated before Thursday when final team sheets will be distributed to all club members.
